The molars in the back of your mouth are needed to do a great deal of work, like grinding and chewing tough foods. These teeth are rather large and missing just one of them can severely impair the function of your mouth.
The only way to replace a missing last molar is to have your dentists, Dr. McKinley-Holloway and Dr. Arben Uldedaj, install a dental implant.
You will need to be fully sedated while the implant is being installed. Afterward, you will still be too sleepy to safely drive. So, you will need to arrange to have someone drive you home after your appointment.
To install the implant, an oral surgeon will make a small channel into your jawbone. A titanium implant will then be screwed into place. Titanium is the metal of choice because it is biologically inert and will eventually fuse to the bone through the process of osseointegration.
Once the implant has been fully integrated into your jaw, we can go about the standard practice of fitting the titanium abutment with a standard crown.
