Are your teeth discolored or stained? If you wish for a brighter, whiter smile, Dr. McKinley and Dr. Holloway may recommend teeth whitening in Shelby Township, Michigan. Our dentists offer in-office whitening and at-home whitening.
Zoom Whitening
Our dentists use the Zoom QuickPro in-office whitening system. The Zoom QuickPro whitening system produces noticeably whiter results in less time. With in-office whitening, our dentists will place the whitening gel directly on your teeth. QuickPro uses a dual-layer whitening varnish technology consisting of a 20% hydrogen peroxide whitening varnish following by an innovative sealer layer the dries and in seconds to lock the varnish in place. After the 10-minute application process you can leave our office and return home. Simply brush or wipe off the varnish 30 minutes later to complete your treatment.
Effectiveness of Teeth Whitening
Zoom whitening systems have been known to dramatically brighten teeth, and in some cases can lighten the color of your teeth by up to eight shades. As an added bonus, the sealer layer of the QuickPro treatment prevents the whitening varnish from touching soft tissue while the low volume formula leads to virtually no sensitivity, which makes your whitening treatment very comfortable.
How Long Will Teeth Whitening Last?
The effects of teeth whitening are not permanent. Patients who consume foods and beverages that can stain their teeth may see the effects of teeth whitening begin to fade in as little as a month. However, if you avoid food and drink that will stain your teeth, you may sustain your bright smile for a year or longer. You are also welcome to return to our office to touch-up your whitening treatment and renew your smile any time that you would like.

Teeth Whitening FAQs
Are you considering whitening your teeth? Read some of our FAQs to learn more about professional teeth whitening and call our office to schedule an appointment with our dentists and team.
What causes my teeth to become stained?
Some of the factors which cause tooth discoloration and staining include:
- Age
- Smoking and tobacco use
- Illness and medications
- Genetics
- Excessive fluoride consumption (fluorosis)
- Foods and drinks which stain (including tea, coffee, soda, wine, berries, pomegranates, grapes, beets, tomato sauce, soy sauce, ketchup and balsamic vinegar, to name a few)
Why should I have my teeth whitened professionally?
There are many over-the-counter whitening products, but professional teeth whitening is always faster, safer and more effective. Whitening products purchased at your local supermarket can take weeks to have an effect and may cause long-term damage to your teeth and other oral structures. Professional whitening treatments work more quickly and are designed to avoid causing damage to your teeth. The Zoom whitening system in particular has been known to dramatically enhance patients’ smiles in just one appointment.
How long does tooth whitening last?
The results from whitening treatments typically last from six months to two years. Avoiding foods, beverages and other substances that stain can extend the results of your treatment. You may want to touch-up your whitening treatment periodically as well to keep your smile bright.
Does tooth whitening affect fillings, veneers or crowns?
No. Whitening treatments have little or no effect on the restorative materials used in creating fillings, veneers and crowns.
Teeth Whitening Kit
If you elect to receive take-home whitening, our dentists will provide you with a custom-made bleaching tray and a gel of whitening solution. We will give you instructions on how to apply the gel and wear the trays, including how long to wear them. Most take-home whitening kits require to the wear the trays for several hours a day or during the night for up to four weeks. As you wear the trays you will see your teeth gradually begin to whiten.
