Patients from Shelby Township, Clinton Township, Macomb, and beyond have found great benefit in restoring their smiles with our custom-made dentures. These removable appliances are designed to replace missing teeth while bringing back the beauty and functionality of your smile. Our office offers both complete dentures, ideal for patients who have lost all their permanent teeth, and partial dentures, which are perfect for those who still have some natural teeth remaining in the upper or lower jaw. For those seeking a longer-lasting solution, we also provide permanent dentures, offering exceptional stability and a natural feel. No matter your situation, we offer a variety of denture options tailored to meet your unique needs and preferences.
Types of Dentures
We provide both traditional and custom dentures for our patients’ differing needs. Often, we recommend custom dentures so patients can enjoy a more comfortable, better fitting appliance. When dentures are individually made, there is less likelihood for slippage or missed alignment.
Partial Dentures
For patients who are not missing all of their teeth, partial dentures can be a great option where the replacement teeth are secured by the surrounding teeth still remaining in the jaw. With partial dentures you get the stability of anchoring to existing teeth with the convenience of having a removable prosthetic.
Traditional Full Dentures
For some patients, traditional dentures are the straightforward solution to address tooth loss. Intended for patients missing many teeth, these beautiful dental appliances are designed to fit comfortably in the mouth while appearing like a new, sparkling smile.
Traditional dentures are held in place by bracing around the jawbone and gum tissue of the patient’s dental arch—generally with the additional aid of a denture cement or glue to keep them firmly in place. Traditional dentures can also be custom-made to be fully personalized for each patient.
The traditional denture allows the patient to bite and chew as they normally could, though you should avoid extra sticky or chewy substances. This model of dental appliance is also removable for easier cleaning and better comfort while you sleep at night!
Implant-Supported Dentures
If you are interested in a more permanent solution for missing teeth, then implant-supported dentures may be the option for you. The first key difference between these models and traditional dentures is how they are secured in your mouth. These appliances have posts which will be comfortably and securely anchored to your jaw, simulating the function of your teeth’s roots.
The permanent denture provides all the advantages of traditional dentures, but with more stability. They cannot be removed, which ensures they do not slip, require realignment, or become lost. They can be cared for as easily as your natural teeth with regular brushing and flossing.
Better yet, these sturdy implant dentures will stay secure all day, every day, so you don’t have to change anything about the way you eat! Find out more about how implants make wearing dentures easy; read through our Implant-Supported Dentures page.
The Denture Process
The denture making process takes several weeks and a few appointments. After our dentists determine which type of dentures are right for you, they will make impressions of your jaw and take measurements of how your jaws relate to each other.
Using the impressions and measurements, our dentists will create models in the exact shape as your future dentures. Our dentists will have you try on these models to check the color, shape, and fit before the final denture is made.
For implant-supported dentures, the dentures will be created the same way, but you will undergo the additional step of having dental implants secured in your jawbone to anchor your new teeth.
Choosing the Right Dentures
Many patients are often curious which is the “better” denture; traditional dentures that rest on the gums or the implant-supported dentures that are secured in your jawbone.
They both have their benefits and drawbacks, so our dental team will be happy to walk you through the details to help you determine which will be better for your needs.
At our practice, we are committed to creating customized dental care for every patient. This means before each treatment we invite you to schedule a consultation where we can answer any questions as well as gain your input in order to better access your needs and preferences.
